#716 Lenn Sakata

Why this card is awesome: Because someone needs to wake Lenn up and tell him that it's the 80s, not the 70s. Unless he was going for the retro look with those sunglasses, long before retro was cool.

This was Sakata's final card.

Cool stat: Here's a fun list. Sakata makes the top 10 for most AB in a season with a batting average of .500 or better.

I hadn't realized that Lennnny had gone to the Yankees, or that the Yankees had been desperate enough to give at bats to Lennnny at that point. With all the '88 Topps I bought back then, I don't think I ever got this card. It's the only one in the set so far that looks completely foreign to me.

Note: Only Dann Bilardello rivals Sakata for most consecutive "n"s in the shortened version of his first name.

Andy, you just missed posting this card on the 25th anniversary of Lenn Sakata's inning behind the plate by 2 weeks!

I wonder if Tippy sends him a thank you card every year.

He looks like Richard Ramirez (aka The Night Stalker) with those glasses on.
