#627 Joe Boever

Why this card is awesome: Because Boever looks nervous there in Veterans Stadium, thinking geez, the Phillies are the only team worse than the Braves..hope I don't end up playing there in a few years (uh oh!)

Cool stat: Boever's 1995 ranks in the top 10 for most homers given up in a season with no starts.

Actually, I think that is Three Rivers Stadium. The press level at the Vet wasn't nearly as wide as what is shown in this card

Also, the upper deck at the Vet had three different shades of earthtone seats as opposed to two.

Hey, come to think of it, didn't Boever eventually wind up with the Pirates as well?

Philly, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Cincy... was there even a difference in the 70s and 80s? all of them just terrible, terrible stadiums that are all gone, coincidence?

3 of the top 10 posted an above-average ERA despite surrendering all those HRs; but they all pitched during the second dead ball era.

The Vet has sentimental value for me for obvious reasons, but otherwise, no

I myself went to the Vet as a kid a bunch and never thought much of it positively or negatively. Then I went to Camden Yards in 1993 and realized what a dump the Vet was.
