#431 Casey Candaele
Why this card is awesome: Because is it just me, or does Candaele look extremely bundled up here?
Candaele was an odd choice to be an All-Star Rookie. Yeah, he had a decent year in the minors in 1986, but didn't seem to be star material. I wonder why Topps chose him?
Cool stat: Candaele had two career 4-hit games.

Why did Topps choose Casey? Because they thought no one could hold a Candaele to him....

bad joke, sure, but you got a grin out of me!
There were no other rookie 2B worth the trophy in 1987. Nelson Liriano was the only other candidate, and Casey outhit him by a mile.
I think part of it is the double-flap helmet and red side panels. Makes it look like a winter hat...
