#657 Gary Redus

Why this card is awesome: Because, ladies and gentlemen, I give you: THE BLURRIEST PERSON EVER IN THE BACKGROUND OF A BASEBALL CARD.

Cool stat: Redus had one of the lowest batting averages for a player with at least 300 SB. He was only slightly better than his contemporary namesake, Gary Pettis.

But Gary hit .462 in his short season rookie league, still the highest batting average for a season in organized baseball (at least for a full season for that league). I don't think Gary Pettis ever hit .400.

Yeah, Mike, but that fact plus proper admission is what it will take for Gary to get into the Hall of Fame. Lots of guys did great things in the minor leagues and achieved little-to-nothing in the bigs.

That guy in the background is none other than Manny Trillo. He followed Gary Redus around for an entire month, for some reason. I think Redus sold him bad tires, or something.
