#577 Tom Browning
Why this card is awesome: Because of those two dudes chillin' in the background, arms folded and relaxing in the sun.
Cool stat: Browning's reputation is better than he deserves due to the perfect game that he threw. But he was quite solid. From 1985 to 1990, he was good for 200 innings and an ERA+ between 100 and 110. He did that 5 times and nobody else did it more than twice. Good, yes. Great, no.

As impressive as Vince Coleman's 110 SBs were, Browning had the better overall season and was more deserving of Rookie of the Year in 1985.
What actually happened in the voting was that Coleman got every single first-place vote, Browning got every single second-place vote, and 6 other guys split the third-place votes. Interestingly, all of those guys had at least decent careers. Usually, there are one or two guys on ROY voting lists who disappeared completely within a year or two.
Seeing Browning's arm break while pitching remains one of the creepiest baseball-related videos that I have ever watched.
I don't remember that...are you thinking of Dave Dravecky?
Oh, no, I just read about it on wikipedia...I don't remember that.
