#502 Danny Gladden

Why this card is awesome: Because I know there are at least six people who think it's cooler to get a tour of empty seats than it is to check out Dan Gladden. They are in the background of this photo.

Cool stat: Gladden was not a great player, but he did do some things very well. From 1984 to 1991, just 5 players (including Gladden) had at least 4 HR, 1 3B, and 15 SB every year. The other four were some nice company: Juan Samuel, and current or future HOFers Ryne Sandberg, Rickey Henderson, and Tim Raines.

Gladden is synonymous with the Twins' as World Champions: The most memorable image of his career is of him strutting home to win the 91 WS in the 10th. But he also played a big role in the 87 WS; hitting a grand slam in Game 1 and driving in the final run in the 8th of Game 7.

His late '80's mullet also worked better than the early '90's mullets (Darren Daulton, John Kruk, Unit, etc.). I suppose with it being combed and shaped routinely it had a more kept-up appearance than the shaggy stuff.

31 steals in 86 games in 1984! I thought he was going to be a star, never happened, but as mentioned above was a nice piece of 2 title teams

Yet another Tiger Stadium photo! You could do a subset on Tigers Stadium shots -- but it is mostly Twins and Red Sox players. And Tigers, of course.
