#281 Jerry Hairston

Why this card is awesome: Because of more crazy glasses. Seems like half the White Sox (or ex-White Sox in Ron Kittle's case) in this set have weird glasses.

Cool stat: Papa Hairston has two boys in the bigs right now: Jerry Jr. and Scott. From 1970 to 1990, Hairston tied for second (6) in most seasons with 20-something RBIs. Only Rick Cerone Dave Collins had more (7.)

Love the mesh jersey, too.

He broke up a Milt Wilcox no-hitter in the 9th in '83. His son, Jerry, Jr., also broke up a no-hitter in the 9th against a Rangers combined effort. I'd suspect they're the only father-son combo to bust up 9th inning no-nos.

(If you're interested in this research, go to http://milkeespress.com/lostninth.html#ninth I found it rather interesting.)

Wow, I always thought of him as a real good hitter, I was really wrong.

Keep in mind that he rarely got a lot of PAs in any given season...I suspect he could have hit better given the opportunity.

I'm willing to bet that he was the only player to don all four uniform styles worn by the team between the years 1971 to 1990!
