1988 O-Pee-Chee #88 Delino DeShields

Why this card is awesome: Because if you thought Minchey's hat looked goofy, you didn't know that this was coming. I figure inside that hat, Delino has his wallet, a brown-bag lunch, and either car keys or a bus pass. I also find it a bit odd that they put half a space between the "De" and "Sheilds" in his last name. It's all one name, just with the "S" capitalized. It's no different from McDonald.

Cool stat: DeShields has always reminded me of a poor man's Roberto Alomar. Just like Alomar, DeShields had several 3-5 year stints with a number of teams. But Delino did not hit like Robbie. He hit very well against some very good pitchers, including Sid Fernandez and Bret Saberhagen, but he was thoroughly owned by a lot more, including Tom Browning, Fernando Valenzuela, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Mike Hampton, and many more.

Say what you want about Delino, but I'll always love him for showing off his high socks and wearing that double flapped batting helmet. Plus, he was one of the fastest players in Ken Griffey, Jr. Baseball for the Super Nintendo. I bunted him 9 times out of 10 at-bats, and he'd beat out six of those.

Oh my GOD that is an awesome card! I have a ton of '88 O-Pee-Chee, but I don't remember that one. That's an airbrush/whatever they used as photoshop in 1988 hall of fame card there.

The hat controls me. It commanded me to click every ad on the page....

dayf: I can't tell you how much it delights me to display a card you've never seen! There are two more OPC draft pick cards to show--unfortunately a couple of the images didn't load properly and I don't have them here, so you'll have to wait until Monday to see them.

That is an awesome card. DeShields was great with the Expos, but I stopped following him closely after he crossed the border. I can't wait til you give the O-Pee-Chee cards away...I WANT THAT CARD!

I think I will be posting the giveaway for the OPC cards on Tuesday. This time around, it's going to involve posting comments/links to earn yourself a free pick at whatever cards are available. More details to come.
