#173 Eric Plunk
Why this card is awesome: Because they made Plunk look like such a piece of rubbish, I can't believe it. He looks unshaven, unkempt, and unhappy. At least they could have airbrushed up his face a little bit.
Cool stat: Since 1901, for relievers who pitched at least 1000 innings, Plunk makes the top 15 for fewest hits per 9 innings. He's ahead of the likes of Lee Smith, Jeff Reardon, Kent Tekulve, and Guillermo Hernandez.

i bet they took a whole roll of Eric Plunk film, and this was the best shot they had.
not a terribly attractive man...
Actually, it looks like Tim Curry scrubbed off his "Rocky Horror Picture Show" makeup and decided a career change was in order.
I'll look at the stat list. You would expect that relievers who allow very few H/IP would be the top of the line. Not necessarily. Look at the 67 on the list that are 9 H/IP or under. Not a lot of huge names. Then look at "active" players...#18 Arthur Rhodes (NRI of M's coming off injury), #43 Ron Villone (NRI Cardinals), #48 Mike Timlin, #57 Mike Stanton, #64 Todd Jones, #65 Bob Wickman (not in camp). Only Timlin and Jones are worth a crap anymore, but they don't give up hits.....(scratching my head).
I always thought it was funny his name was "Plunk." He only hit 32 batters in his career, so he didn't really live up to his name, did he?
Well. He looks exactly as if he had just been on a crying jag.
