#138 Mitch Webster

Why this card is awesome: Because it's another Expos card with wood paneling in the background! Search back for Dennis Martinez to see the first one.

Cool stat: Webster had 10 different games with 2 stolen bases, and his teams went 7-3 in those games.

The dugout shot is fuzzy, but that looks like Mets #13 in the middle of the shot, which in 1987 would've been Lee Mazzilli.

Well if that's Lee Mazzilli, he must have fallen asleep in the sun.

The guy does look to have dark skin, but one can never really tell with those fuzzy, shadowed shots. I'm just going by what I can make out of his number. I'd suggest Darryl Strawberry (#18) as a possibility, but he played every inning in each of the Expos' 8 games vs. the Mets at Shea.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I can think of another Expo card that contains wood paneling and more Mets in the background.

Go ahead...spoil!

BTW Mike, I assume this is spring training, so that could be Strawberry.

Check out #720 Tim Raines.

Looks like Shea to me. Also, both Tim Raines and Dennis Martinez appear in front of wood-paneled dugouts, but neither participated in Spring Training in 1987 due to collusion.

This will probably be a horribly negative post, but I never really liked Mitch Webster. I cannot come up with any good reason. He was a good slash hitter with doubles power and triples speed, but I just didn't like him. Sorry, Mitch. Glad you had a reasonably good career despite a lack of support from me.
