Farewell from 88 Topps Cards

That's all, folks!

We've reached the end of the line with this blog. Having gone through all 792 cards in the regular-issue set as well as all 132 cards in the traded set, we're done. We hit 1,090 posts starting with the Vince Coleman RB back on January 9th. I expect this to be my last post ever for this blog.

This has been an immensely fun experience for me, mostly because of all the support and great comments this blog has received. Among many others, I want to thank dayf from Cardboard Junkie, Ben Henry from The Baseball Card Blog, Steve from White Sox Cards, Kevin at Orioles Card "O" the Day, Scott from the 83 Fleer Project (from whom I got the idea for this blog), Blake at TwinsCards.com, and numerous other bloggers out there who supported the site. I also want to thank some of the great readers and bloggers who commented here often, including Luke, --David, thewritersjourney, indefenseofabsurdity, Johngy, Cliff (capewood), night owl, fogus, Matt S, Mike S, Jason C, Jamin, Chris D, Spike, Jeffrey W, Timberhill, Extra Innings, Splint, MMayes, Toronto Mike, ESchmut, Bo R, Uglee Card, jacobmrley, and of course Gary Thurman's entire family. If I haven't mentioned you specifically, it's not because I don't appreciate you.

Two notes going forward:
  • The fun continues over at 78 Topps Cards, so please bookmark or track the new blog.
  • I will continue to see any new comments made on this blog, and will respond if appropriate, so feel free to peruse all the back posts. This blog will stand for (hopefully) a long time as a testament to the 1988 Topps set.
One last big THANK YOU from me.

And just like that...

..it's over.

Just want to say a big thank you for doing this. 1988 Topps was the second set that I ever collected, and it's been great to take a second look at it. It's funny, when you're a kid, you buy a few packs and think, "wow, I've got a lot of baseball cards - but I saw on this blog a lot of cards that I hadn't seen before. There were also a lot of aspects of cards that I had never sufficiently appreciated - the small details of the photos, the biographical text on the back - and I'll look at cards in general in a whole new way from now on. Seriously, this blog has been something that I've looked forward to each day, and I'm glad that the 78 blog is up and running to fill the void. Thanks again!

Congratulations! You've made one of the boring Topps card sets very fun and interesting! Compelling reading! Creative observations! Edge-of-your-seat excitement! (Well, maybe that's a little too far...)

Can't wait to read about the mustaches and 'fros on the 78topps blog!

Not if I see you first. :)

Thanks a bunch for profiling a set I collected very little of when it came out, then grew to love over time. When I decided to collect this whole set again, other collectors looked at me and said "Why are you collecting that?" implying that it's worthless. If this blog had existed at the time, I would've pointed them in this direction.

Thanks for the great site! I enjoyed reading it, and remembering some of the cards that I had forgotten about.

thanks for the blog andy! 88 topps, although maybe a little aesthetically challenged compared to other sets, is the card that i picture whenever anyone mentions baseball cards. it sure was gratifying seeing andre dawson being selected as the best card in the set, just a hair over don mattingly's classic.

Thank you so much for the site. It has been a true pleasure revisiting THE set that represented my childhood collecting days.

I only caught on to this blog probably halfway through the set, but took the time to revisit older posts and even went to my local card shop where i found the complete set for $7.50.

So once again, thanks, and I'm loving the 78 set despite knowing nothing about it.

I've enjoyed this and it has caused me to think about looking at one of my favorite sets, 1972. I'm looking forward to seeing what you're going to do with the 1978 set. I appreciate the hard work you've put into this to make it interesting.

Thanks everybody, and you're all quite welcome. Thank you for making it enjoyable for me as well.

This and the 78 are the two best card blogs out there bar none. And the 88 set takes me back. I remember opening packs of this, chewing the gum and sorting the the cards by team on my bedspread, with not a care in the world.

This was a lot of fun and a great idea to go through a really fun set and relive some of the great and not so great players. I look forward to the 78 set blog.

this blog sucked me into the whole online card collecting community. i am now the 'patron saint' of the 1965 topps project over at kevin's blog and the girls at dinged corners have a restraining order against me.

i enjoyed this greatly (i wish i had the time/patience to do this to one of my old topps sets - 1975, i'm looking at you...) and i look forward to the 78 topps blog

I would like to echo everyone above me, and congratulate you on one of the best baseball card blogs out there. Keep up the great work with 1978 and beyond.

This was a great blog and if it weren't for it, I wouldn't have a blog. Interestingly, I found this blog from a Royal's blog or site that linked to the infamous Gary Thurman card.
I must say that I definitley under-rated this set a year ago and now I over-rate it. But, that's a good thing.
Thanks for everything. I'll see you in '78.

I'm many years late finding this blog, but I enjoyed reading through the entire thing in about a month or two. I didn't start collecting till 1990, and honestly, 88 Topps is probably my *least* favorite classic set. But despite that, I loved seeing and reading about these cards/players. I'll now move on to the 78 Topps blog, but I peeked ahead and see it was abandoned partway.. bummer. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks.
