#711 Bill Gullickson

Why this card is awesome: Because this is the WORST PHOTO EVER. Terrible smile they chose to use, and, oh yeah, his face is completely in the shadows.

Cool stat: Back on Bob Forsch's card, we noted that Gullickson didn't deserve a winning record based on the rest of his numbers, but that's what he got. Also, in the last 40 years, Gullickson has one of the lowest strikeout rates in a 20-win season. He also had one of the lowest CG totals among the same set.

You oughta look in to sending this one to Dinged Corners. They collect, among other things, smile cards and I'm sure this one would make their day...

I would do it but I don't have a copy and I'll be @#@# if I'm gonna spend $20 on eBay to get one in a lot of 10,000 80's commons...haha...

He may have had the horrible career strikeout rate, but it wasn't always that way. We're coming up on the 28th anniversary of Bill having an 18 strikeout 9 inning complete game against the Cubs on 9/10/80. He got Jerry Martin 4 times, former Dodger/Pirate manager 3 times and one of the great bushy mustaches of all time, Tim Blackwell, 3 times. Only Bill Buckner played the whole game and didn't fan against Bill.
