We're celebrating the 20th anniversary of one of the great classic baseball card sets, 1988 Topps. We're going through all 792 cards one by one, posting bits about what makes the card awesome and cool stats about the player or team featured on the card. We're also posting the 1988 Topps Traded set!

here's a good question, who had the most appearances in the 88topps set? (inc. team leaders)
Ol' Benny has 3 that I know of: Record Breaker, ALL Star and base card....
I don't know the answer right off, but a bunch of guys have 3, I think. Mattingly is in a Record Breaker and All-Star too. Boggs is on the Team Leaders card and an All-Star card. Eddie Murray appears TWICE on a record-breaker card, plus on the Team Leaders card (but no All-star card.)
Why did Topps always call him "Benny" I never actually heard anyone call him that. Kind of like "Bob" Clemente.
He was called Benny by other companies, too. For example his 1988 Score card is Benny Santiago. I think by 1989 or 1990, though, he was Benito on all cards.
