#330 Eddie Whitson
Why this card is awesome: Because, damn it, I am starting to get pissed off with these card numbers. Whitson was coming off 3 years of well-below league average ERA and yet he got a card ending in zero. No good.
Cool stat: Whitson is tied for most seasons since 1901 with an ERA+ in the 80s. He was a substandard pitcher. (Note I mean literally the 80s--not the 1980s.)

My grandfather used to do an "Archie Campbell" thing where he would interchange the first letter of words in a phrase. When he smelled something that stunk, he got a "shiff of whit." Fittingly, whenevery I come across Ed's cards, I give him the Berman nickname of Ed "Shiff of" Whitson. Now I know that it's really appropriate.
1980, my favorite pitcher at the time, Vida Blue makes the all star team from my beloved Giants. He gets hurt, and Ed Whitson is placed on the roster in his place. I remember asking my Dad, who in the hell is Ed Whitson?!?
mmayes, that's a Spoonerism. I referenced it on Chuck Finley's card.
Eddie Whitson, for all his faults, also had a very fine mustache.
