Why this card is awesome: Because 66s are wild on this card. It's card #66, and Rawley had 66 strikeouts in his first year on the card, and 66 walks in his last year on the card.
Cool stat: In 1983, Rawley completed 13 games despite just a .500 record. Since 1980, just 5 pitchers have had more CGs in a season with a .500 or worse record.

66 walks? How about 86 walks and an eye exam.
ReplyDeleteShane finished his career with the Twins and holds the distinction of giving up Jeff Kunkel's only multi-homer game of his 18-homer career.
Geez, man.
ReplyDeleteYou stole my Jeff Kunkel fact for when we get to his card.
And that's what I get for not looking at the large version of the card...
What does it say for a 10 year major league vet when the factoid on the card refers to simple, unimpressive stats from your Florida State League days..... If I were doing this today, it would be "Shane operates a sports bar in his hometown of Sarasota."
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, most of the 1988 Topps cards have factoids either about minor-league performance, how many double plays they turned on defense, or who scouted them.
ReplyDeleteHey - Rawley & Durham right next to each other (Raleigh-Durham)
